Why we shoot Vieques.

An hour east of San Juan by ferry or a 25-minute flight by Cape Air. No cruise ships, no large hotels, no crowds — just wild horses on empty beaches and light that feels like it belongs to a different decade.

01Playa Caracas, Playa La Chiva, and Sun Bay are empty beaches by U.S. mainland standards. We've had entire stretches of white sand to ourselves for sunset sessions.
02The wild horses. They roam free, they are not afraid of cameras, and they make every family portrait instantly iconic when they wander into frame.
03The island forces a slower pace. Clients arrive wound-up from travel and relax into themselves within the first ten minutes — their pictures look like people on vacation, not people being photographed.

Afternoon golden hour, ideally November–May when the light is at its softest and the mosquitoes are at their least aggressive. Summer sessions are possible with bug-spray discipline.

Logistics & permits

Refuge beaches free; ferry or Cape Air from San Juan

Day-trip from San Juan is possible but tight. We strongly recommend staying overnight — it halves the stress and doubles the hour-count of good light. We travel with you: ferry from Ceiba ($2/person each way) or Cape Air from Isla Grande ($200 round trip, 25 min). Travel fee $250 applied to cover our logistics.

What to wear

Earth tones, sun-faded pastels, linen, denim. Vieques is not the place for stilettos or formalwear — the beauty is in the unpolished light. Embrace the wind; it will do something to your hair the entire trip.
